Fargo’s Second Approval Voting Election Runs Smoothly
Thu, 16 Jun 2022 19:46:14 +0000
The election itself—as approval voting usually is—was mostly uneventful. Approval voting lets voters choose as many candidates as they want. The candidate with the most votes wins. That’s it. For many Fargo voters, this was their second go at it. Perhaps the only catch was that the North Dakota Secretary of State continued to report […]

Sick of the Circus£ Get Rid of the Clowns.

American politics are commonly referred to as a “circus”. Showtime’s hit political docuseries is even called “The Circus”. What troubles me most about this term is not how trite it’s become, but how none of us question it. It’s now just widely accepted that those in elected office should serve as entertainers, rather than representatives. […]

What the Moore v. Harper decision could mean

In short, if adopted by the U.S. Supreme Court, an extreme version of the ISL theory could hold that only state legislatures and the federal government have any say in how federal elections are run—potentially removing any role for state courts, administrative agencies, redistricting commissions, or reforms enacted by initiative.

Parties, your non-majority nominees are failing. RCV can help.
Tue, 06 Dec 2022 18:57:35 +0000
When most voters are left unrepresented in the outcome of our elections, that’s obviously bad for the voters. It allows the minority of voters to make decisions for the majority. However, it is also bad for candidates and parties. Nominees go into general elections with weak support from their party. This is especially consequential when a party sends an unpopular candidate to an otherwise winnable race.
